HOMEMADE GRANOLA

  • PREP TIME: 10 minutes
  • COOK TIME: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • YIELDS: about 5 cups

Ingredients

  • 3 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup whole pecans
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut
  • ½ cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 cup golden raisins
  • ½ cup cane syrup
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt

This granola is sweetened with cane syrup giving it a rich, southern flavor. If you can’t find cane syrup in your area then substitute with maple syrup. Serve with yogurt and fresh fruit for a satisfying breakfast.

Instructions

FIRST Preheat oven to 250°F. In a large bowl, combine oatmeal, wheat germ, pecans, coconut, and seeds; set aside.

NEXT Whisk together syrup, sugar, oil, and salt in a small bowl. Pour over dry ingredients and toss to coat. Spread in a single layer on two rimmed baking sheets coated with cooking spray.

LAST Bake until evenly browned, about 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once granola has cooled, stir in raisins, and store in an airtight container.
